Local Flood Management

Strategy for For Flood Alert System

The aim of the Flood Alert system is to tell registered users of potential flooding so they can make preparations in good time. This issue is to strike a balance between false reporting and missed events.

The system will be based on capturing flood information from the local area based on Risk level and date / time. Risk levels will be defined as:

  1. Water less than 200mm depth
  2. Water between 200mm and 500mm depth
  3. Water more than 500mm depth
  4. Water and sewage less than 200mm depth
  5. Water and sewage more than 200mm depth

This will allow flooding events to be linked to predicted / actual rainfall over the catchment area and up-stream water levels. The plan will be to use this information to train an AI system which will then be able to provide accurate and timely alerts for flood events.

Key to this will be the capture of accurate local flooding information.
