Notification of a Pending Flood Event
Who
This website is linked to the Met Office weather forecast, and local rainfall and river level monitors which generate automatic warnings of potential flood events specific to each General Area. These warnings will be sent via email and / or SMS to the following people:
- Who have <add link: Registered> on this website from the General Area
- People who have <add link: added> their homes at as risk from flooding
- Members of the Flood Group
- Flood management volunteers
Warnings
These apply to a defined area. Under normal operation, the system will take information from all warning sources every 6 hours. This frequency is increased as the severity of the flooding threat increases..
Trigger 1
- Notify Flood Wardens & Flood Group
- Check defences ready to deploy
- Increase automatic monitoring frequency to every 30 mins
Trigger 2
- Notify all registered people in area
- Notify Flood Wardens to deploy flood defences
- Notify householders with flood gates to close them
- Flood Wardens directly contact all households requiring assistance or evacuation
- Increase automatic monitoring frequency to every 5 mins
Trigger 3
- Notify registered people and Flood Wardens flooding is imminent
- Automatically notify the police to close affected roads
- Flood Wardens contact and evacuate households which need to be evacuated
- Automatically send a list of households requiring assistance or evacuation to the emergency services
Reminders
Once per year in Autumn, reminders (containing the link) will be sent to Flood Wardens and people registered on the website to check flood channels and grids. Any problems should be reported to Somerset Council by clicking here.
